MISSION
The mission of PublicRoutes.com is to provide comprehensive, door-to-door local
directions and detailed maps to city dwellers, tourists and businesses in major
cities around the country. Launched in New York City, the site allows visitors to
obtain accurate and timely information on all transportation methods used to navigate
the Tri-state area including city buses, subways, trains and ferries. PublicRoutes.com
offers users a single source for locating and traveling to cities top restaurants,
shops, and services.
BACKGROUND
Native New Yorker Marc Sellouk could not find a web site to help him quickly and
easily navigate the Tri-state area and the public transit system. He came up with
the idea for a one-stop web resource for getting around the Big Apple and developed
PublicRoutes.com. Created to fill a void in the online local search and directions
space, PublicRoutes.com is the first site that helps people get where they need
to go using all modes of public transportation available in New York City � subways,
buses, trains, ferries, Air Trains, trams and taxis/driving.
TECHNOLOGY
Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and map data from leading vendors,
PublicRoutes.com is able to generate proprietary maps and routing information that
is accurate, continually updated and customized to users� needs. With a growing
technology development team, PublicRoutes.com is constantly refining the algorithmic
backbone that powers the site with the goal of making it the most intuitive directions-based
portal on the Web.
